Coming Together Project Gallery
This gallery displays the work of women and transwomen who came together to share their experiences of homelessness or marginal housing in the Coming Together Project. The women/transwomen were their own writers expressing their stories/truths, costume directors choosing costumes, make-up artists, scene and backdrop painters and stage directors directing their stage presence or ‘action,’ together creating “Staged Photography” or “Living Photography”. Out of about 2,000 photos that the research team took, the community artist (Natalie Wood) selected 200 images, from which the advisory board members chose the ones that spoke to them most and helped write the captions for each theme that has been highlighted in the posters: Surviving Addictions , Home Should Be Safe and Fun , Strength Through Healing and Helping , Courage through Friendships. The gallery also includes scenes that were not featured in the four posters: Employment Discrimination, Confronting Social Services, Taking Action Together, and Overcoming Language Barriers.
